I’m Harish Sharma, founder of the Dhari Devi Band and currently serving as a Band Instructor at Air Force School, Delhi Cantt. I hail from the Almora district of Uttarakhand, and my love for the folk music of my region has been a constant inspiration in my journey. My passion for traditional Uttarakhandi instruments like the Garhwali Dhol Damau led me to train under President Award winner Dr. Uttam Das, which helped me refine my understanding and technique. Through the Dhari Devi Band, my vision is to preserve and promote the cultural and musical heritage of Uttarakhand. I am committed to reviving instruments such as the Uttarakhand Dhol Damau, along with folk rhythms and age-old melodies that are slowly fading. If you’re looking to bring the soul of the hills to your next event, you can now Book Dhol Damau performances with the Dhari Devi Band and experience the rich legacy of our music firsthand. By connecting today’s generation with the roots of our tradition, I hope to keep our identity alive and pass it on with pride.
Dr. Uttam Das is a respected Dhol Sagar Gyaata, known for his deep knowledge and lifelong dedication to the ancient oral tradition of Dhol Sagar, which governs the rhythms and rituals of Uttarakhand’s folk drumming. He was honored with the President’s Award by Dr. Giani Zail Singh in 1983 and the Keshav Das Anuragi Smriti Samman by the Uttarakhand Government in 2016. Dr. Das has spent decades preserving and passing on this sacred rhythmic knowledge, which is traditionally used in religious ceremonies, festivals, and life rituals across the hills. His teachings continue to guide and inspire those committed to protecting Uttarakhand’s cultural roots.
